Steele County operates a Geographic Information System (GIS) to provide current and accurate geospatial information to county departments, outside agencies, and the public. This information is made available through various maps and web pages. Visit the Steele County GIS Hub to access web maps for tax parcel information, recorded documents, corner certification and aerial imagery.

Responsibilities

The GIS department is responsible for 

  • Creating rural property addresses.
  • Implementing GIS applications for other departments.
  • Maintaining Tax Parcel data.
  • Making maps and online mapping applications.
  • Managing geospatial technology and information.
  • Preparing and sharing data with the public and outside agencies.
  • Providing GIS data for NG-911.
  • Providing technical support for GIS services.
  • Supporting emergency management operations.
  • Training staff on the use of GIS software and applications.

Open Data

Steele County has adopted a Resolution establishing Open GIS Data.  

Steele County's GIS data can be found on the Minnesota Geospatial Commons.
Please contact the GIS Department to acquire datasets not found on the commons.
