Steele County is able to process death certificate requests when the death occurred in any county in Minnesota during or after 1997.

If a death took place before 1997, you will need to contact the county to which the death occured.

Acceptable payment forms for Death Certificate are cash, credit card or money order. Make money orders payable to: Steele County Recorder.
                      (Note: There is a convenience fee if paying with credit card.)


Cost for a death certificate is $13, additional copies purchased as the same time are $6
