Protect Yourself
When you are engaging in sexual activity, it is important to protect yourself from unwanted to sexually transmitted infection (STI). Protecting your health matters. Many STIs have no symptoms, so prevention and regular testing are essential. Steps you can take include:
- Abstaining from sex
- Getting vaccinated to prevent hepatitis B and HPV
- Reducing your number of sex partners
- Regular testing
- Using condoms every time
Often times, STIs have no symptoms so it is important to protect yourself and maintain regular testing. For more information on local resources and signs and symptoms, view our Sexually Transmitted Infections Resource Guide.
Be Prepared
If you engage in vaginal sex, pregnancy is possible even when using birth control. While birth control methods greatly reduce the chance of pregnancy, none are 100% effective. If you believe that you or your partner may be pregnant, Steele County Public Health offers free walk‑in pregnancy testing.
