The Board of Adjustment is a five‑member group appointed by the Steele County Board of Commissioners. They act as a quasi‑judicial body, reviewing and deciding requests for variances and zoning appeals. Their decisions on variances are final at the county level and can typically only be appealed in District Court.

In addition to variance requests, the Board interprets zoning maps, floodplain boundaries, and reviews appeals of decisions made by zoning staff. They may also evaluate older lots that no longer meet current zoning standards and determine whether they should be combined or adjusted to better align with today’s requirements.
