  • First and third Saturdays: 9:00 a.m. to noon
  • (no charge for Steele County residents to use)  

Many common household products, such as paints, solvents, cleaning products, adhesives, mercury and pesticides can be hazardous to humans, animals and the environment when improperly disposed. Steele County works with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency to provide a safe place for residents to dispose of household chemicals.

Reuse Room:

Residents may also bring usable pre-owned hazardous products to these facilities where they will be placed on shelves for others to take home for use free of charge. HHW image - Copy

A product or substance is hazardous when it contains one or more of the following properties: 
  • Corrosive/caustic - Example: Drain Cleaner 
  • Reactive - Example: Ether
  • Flammable - Example: Gasoline
  • Toxic/Poisonous - Example: Pesticides

Examples of Products accepted free of charge: 
Latex paints, Oil based paints, Aerosol cans, Pesticides, Gasoline, Stains, Varnishes, Drain cleaners, Furniture strippers, Solvents, Oven cleaners, Roofing tar, Rat Poison, Weed killers, and Hobby chemicals Adhesives.
