Steele County mails real estate property tax statements each March and mobile home tax statements each July. All property owners receive a tax statement, even if taxes are paid through an escrow company.

Each statement outlines the tax jurisdictions associated with the property—county, city or township, and school district—listed on lines 6 through 12. Special assessments are shown on line 13, along with the amounts due for the first and second half installments.

Property tax due dates vary based on the classification of the property. The table below provides the 2026 payment deadlines. If a due date falls on a weekend, the following business day becomes the official due date.

Please see the property tax statement for due dates. Payments are accepted at the drop box through 8:00 a.m. the following business day after the due date. Any payments after 8:00 a.m. must include a penalty amount.

E-Check 

Electronic payments can be completed online or over the phone. To make an online payment please visit "Tax Information & Parcel Data" click "Tax Information" and follow instructions. Additional convenience fees will be added for all electronic payments:

Credit or Debit Card: 2.5% of tax amount ($1.50 minimum fee)
Visa Debit Card: $3.95 flat fee
E-Check: $1.50 fee under $10,000 and $10.00 over $10,000

Please save a copy of the payment confirmation for your records. 

Direct Debit

Property taxes can be automatically debited from a checking or savings account. There are no convenience fees for direct debit and the payment is debited the day of the due date.

Payments can only be debited in two installments for the first and second half property tax.

Forms for direct payment must be RECEIVED in the Finance office by April 30th for the first half real estate taxes and September 30th for the second half real estate taxes.
